Who is behind Trayz N Beyond?

I am Erick, the designer, maker, and packer behind every piece that leaves this studio. Trayz N Beyond started as a creative outlet and grew into a full brand built around functional art. Every item is made to order, by hand, with intention.

What inspired you to start making epoxy resin pieces?

I wanted to create pieces that felt luxurious but lived in everyday moments. A tray you actually use, a coaster that starts a conversation. Epoxy resin gave me the ability to blend color, texture, and durability in a way that felt truly elevated.

The Process

How are your pieces made?

Each piece starts with a mold, a color story, and a pour. I work with high-quality epoxy resin, mica pigments, and glitter to build depth and dimension. After curing, every piece is sanded, polished, and finished with a high-gloss protective coat.

Can I choose my own colors?

Yes. Customization is at the heart of what we do. You can select your mica color and glitter color combination at checkout. If you have something specific in mind, reach out before ordering and we will do our best to bring your vision to life.

What materials do you use?

I use professional-grade epoxy resin, cosmetic-grade mica pigments, and fine glitters. All pieces are finished with a UV-resistant, high-gloss topcoat for durability and that signature shine.

Troubleshooting

Why is my resin cloudy?

Cloudy resin is usually caused by moisture, cold temperatures, or improper mixing. Make sure your workspace is above 75 degrees F, your molds and tools are completely dry, and you are mixing slowly and thoroughly for the full recommended time. Humidity above 50% can also cause cloudiness. A dehumidifier in your workspace helps significantly.

Why did my resin not cure?

Uncured or sticky resin is almost always a measuring or mixing issue. Always measure by volume unless your brand specifies otherwise, and mix for the full recommended time while scraping the sides and bottom of your cup. Cold temperatures also slow or prevent curing entirely.

Why are there fish eyes or craters in my pour?

Fish eyes are usually caused by silicone contamination, dust, or oils on your mold or surface. Clean everything thoroughly before pouring and avoid using silicone-based products anywhere near your workspace.

Why did my resin yellow?

Yellowing is caused by UV exposure over time or using a low-quality resin that is not UV-stabilized. I use UV-resistant epoxy in all Trayz N Beyond pieces to minimize this. Keep finished pieces out of direct sunlight for best longevity.

Bubbles

How do I prevent bubbles in resin?

Mix slowly and deliberately to avoid introducing air. Warm your resin bottles in warm water for a few minutes before mixing to thin the resin and reduce bubbles naturally. Pour in thin layers and use a heat gun or torch in quick passes over the surface immediately after pouring.

Can I use a heat gun or torch on resin?

Yes. A butane torch or heat gun works great for popping surface bubbles. Keep it moving and hold it 6 to 8 inches above the surface. Do not linger in one spot or you will scorch the resin or cause yellowing. Always work in a ventilated area.

Safety and PPE

What PPE should I wear when working with resin?

At minimum you need nitrile gloves, safety glasses, and a respirator rated for organic vapors. A basic dust mask is not sufficient. Long sleeves are also recommended. Uncured resin is a skin and respiratory sensitizer, meaning repeated exposure without protection can cause allergic reactions that worsen over time.

Is resin safe to use indoors?

Yes, with proper ventilation. Open windows, use a fan to move air out of the room, and always wear your respirator. Avoid working in small enclosed spaces. Once fully cured, epoxy resin is generally considered safe and non-toxic.

Curing

How long should epoxy resin cure before I use it?

Most epoxy resins reach a demold stage in 24 to 48 hours, but full cure takes 72 hours to 7 days depending on the brand, pour thickness, and ambient temperature. I always recommend waiting the full cure time before sanding, coating, or using the finished piece.

What temperature is ideal for curing resin?

The sweet spot is 75 to 85 degrees F with humidity below 50%. Below 70 degrees F, resin cures slowly and may stay tacky. Above 90 degrees F, it can cure too fast and cause cracking or excessive heat buildup in thick pours.

Color and Design

How do I mix mica powder into resin?

Add mica powder to your fully mixed resin after combining Part A and Part B. Add it a little at a time until you reach your desired opacity. Start with about 1 to 2 percent by weight. Too much mica can interfere with curing, so less is more. Stir gently to avoid introducing bubbles.

Can I add glitter to resin?

Absolutely. Glitter is one of my favorite additions. Use polyester or epoxy-safe glitter for best results since craft glitter can bleed color into your resin. Fine glitters suspend beautifully throughout the pour while chunky glitters tend to sink, so plan your pour accordingly.

Can I mix multiple colors in one pour?

Yes. Divide your mixed resin into separate cups, color each one differently, and pour them together or layer them. Work quickly since resin begins to thicken as it cures. Swirling with a toothpick or skewer after pouring creates beautiful marbled effects.
